Jews Fined for Building Sukkah on Property

(New York-AP) -- A Crown Heights, Brooklyn family has been slapped with a
$5,000 fine for building a Sukkah on their front lawn. The fine was issued on
Monday, Yom Kippur, by a city building inspector.
The New York Post says the homeowner says she's had the Sukkah erected
every year during this Jewish holiday since 1993. The holiday is an
observance of the Jews being protected by God as they searched for the holy
land.
The woman calls the fine ridiculous -- saying everyone knows that Jews
put up Sukkahs at this time of year. It will come down in a couple of weeks.
